& History
Anuradhapura Central College, founded in 1947, has blossomed into one of Sri Lanka’s most respected national schools. Rooted in the vision of free education by C. W. W. Kannangara, it began with just 70 students and now nurtures nearly 4,500 learners, offering a rich blend of tradition and modern progress.
Its history is marked by milestones, the relocation to a 15-acre site in 1952, the introduction of scholarship admissions in the 1960s, and its elevation to national school status in 1993. Over the decades, it has produced leaders across medicine, law, engineering, and the arts, carrying forward a proud legacy of excellence.
Beyond academics, the college thrives on tradition and spirit. Its anthem, house system, and sporting triumphs foster unity and pride, while its leafy grounds echo with generations of voices. Today, it stands as a living heritage of Rajarata — a symbol of equality, opportunity, and brilliance.
